Leading South African renewable energy development and delivery platform African Clean Energy Developments (ACED) has successfully developed 1.4 GW of greenfield renewable energy projects, with a combined capital expenditure of more than R35-billion.

The business, headquartered in Cape Town, has been in operation since 2008, and is at the forefront of the industry in South Africa.

ACED has completed more than 700 MW of wind and 500 MW of solar projects under the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy’s Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme and has 170 MW of wind and 30 MW of solar projects in construction in the private offtake market.

The company’s private projects have been market leading, South African firsts, providing clients such as Harmony Gold, Sibanye-Stillwater and Sasol with low-cost, zero-emission power solutions. A further 470 MW of private projects are due to enter construction in the next two quarters. ACED is further developing more than 3.5 GW of wind projects and 4.5 GW of solar photovoltaic projects for private clients and African governments, including South Africa, Eswatini, Namibia and Malawi.

Owned and funded by Old Mutual’s African Infrastructure Investment Managers, ACED is part of a well-established and vertically integrated ecosystem of businesses within the group, most notably Energy Infrastructure Management Services Africa (EIMS), which asset manages ACED developed projects, ensuring optimal performance.

WHAT ACED DOES:

DEVELOP

ACED identifies the potential for high-quality renewable energy projects through sophisticated prospecting, securing land rights, and then developing projects into sustainable and bankable assets by way of optimising technical efficiency, conducting rigorous and competitive procurement processes and obtaining the environmental approvals and other permits required to construct a renewable energy plant.

CLOSE

One of ACED’s key differentiators as a developer is its transactional track record of taking projects from early development to financial close and the commencement of construction in working with project co-sponsors and lenders in managing the finalisation of all funding, land, construction and offtake agreements and other development work streams.

MANAGE

ACED offers project co-sponsors, lenders and off takers additional comfort and continuity when delivering a project by providing top-tier construction management. This entails overseeing the implementation of construction contracts and being responsible for managing finance, payments, stakeholder engagement and reporting on behalf of project owners and clients. A seamless handover to our asset management business, EIMS, is ensured.

Get in touch with ACED should you be looking for large-scale, affordable renewable energy generation to reduce operational expenditure and decarbonise your operations.
