Airlink buys two Embraer E190 airliners from Dutch company
South African domestic and regional airline Airlink has announced the purchase of two Embraer E190 smaller single-aisle airliners from TrueNoord, a Netherlands-based company. Although a specialist in regional aircraft, TrueNoord normally leases them, instead of selling them.
However, this case is unusual in that Airlink has no intention of operating these two aircraft. Rather, their airframes will be used as a source of spare parts for the airline’s operating fleet of E190s, while their engines will provide the carrier with four spare powerplants.
The global airline industry is being hit by bottlenecks in the international supply chains. There are various reasons for these, but they include a shortage of skilled labour, especially in the aircraft and engine manufacturing sectors, and a limited number of suppliers for essential parts.
“Securing these aircraft is a strategic move to safeguard the reliability of our Embraer fleet,” explained Airlink CEO de Villiers Engelbrecht. “By acquiring additional engines and components, we can mitigate the impact of global supply chain disruptions and maintain the high standards of service our customers expect. We value our partnership with TrueNoord and appreciate their flexibility in completing this transaction.”
“This transaction underscores TrueNoord’s commitment to supporting operators with flexible solutions that address today’s operational challenges,” highlighted TrueNoord sales director Maarten Grift. “We were pleased to work with Airlink’s experienced and knowledgeable team and help strengthen their fleet resilience despite dynamic market conditions.”
