Bob Stone receives Seifsa Lifetime Contribution award
Industry employer organisation the Steel and Engineering Industries Federation of Southern Africa (Seifsa) has awarded Robert (Bob) Stone the 2024 Lifetime Contribution to the Industry award for his invaluable contributions, his inspiring journey and his lasting impact on the metals and engineering sector.
Stone started as a young apprentice in 1969 at Imperial Metal Industries in the UK and moved to South Africa in 1981.
He served as director at Zimco Aluminium, chairperson of the Non-Ferrous Metal Industries Association of South Africa and vice-chairperson of the Aluminium Federation of South Africa, as well as Seifsa nonexecutive director and a key member of the main agreement wage negotiation team.
Even in retirement, Stone's passion for the industry remains, as does his commitment to giving back. He has coached youth football and led community theatre programmes for more than 25 years, and exemplifies the values of service, leadership, and love for one’s craft and community, Seifsa said.
"[Stone's] journey building an extraordinary career spanning more than five decades has been marked by unwavering dedication, relentless learning and significant contributions to the industry and his community," the organisation said.
The Lifetime Contribution Award celebrates an individual whose remarkable career and unwavering dedication have left an indelible mark on the metals and engineering sector, and is a tribute to their vision, leadership and enduring impact on the industry, Seifsa said.
