CHEM Energy SA is a hydrogen fuel cell company located at the Dube TradePort Special Economic Zone in Durban, South Africa. CHEM Energy SA is a subsidiary of CHEM Corporation and together with its partner, Sunhydro China, are global leaders in hydrogen and fuel cells, with over 5 000 fuel cells deployed worldwide, with major telcos in Asia, India, South Africa and Nigeria delivering higher network availability, guaranteed to meet or beat diesel generator costs and significantly lower carbon emissions, in weak and off-grid applications.

CHEM Energy SA manufactures CHEM’s latest generation fuel cells, which are backed by more than 300 patents, over $0.25-billion invested in product development over two decades, and over a decade of commercial experience in operating fuel cells and fuel infrastructure globally. CHEM fuel cells are reliable, designed and certified to telco standards and operate autonomously. They are technically and commercially proven as a reliable replacement of diesel generators and the elimination of diesel. CHEM continuously invests in hydrogen and fuel cells, enabling telcos access to the latest fuel cell technology, with higher power solutions from 5 kWe to 10 kWe for telecommunication applications currently available and 100 kWe to 10 MW solutions in 2025.

Additionally, CHEM’s innovative fuel cells are silent and clean, and significantly reduce theft and vandalism, therefore reducing costs. CHEM fuel cells reduce carbon emissions by up to 50% using grey methanol and up to 90% using green-, bio- or e-methanol, compared to diesel generators, enabling telcos to significantly reduce on-site carbon emissions and eliminate diesel, actively achieving carbon reduction emission targets.

Our mission is to provide telecom fuel cell solutions that reduce cost of power and increase network reliability by replacing polluting diesel generators and unreliable batteries with clean, efficient and dependable fuel cell systems.
