City Lodge rolls out electric vehicle chargers at eight of its hotels
City Lodge Hotels has rolled out Chargify electric vehicle (EV) charging stations at eight of its properties.
The Gauteng hotels with charging points are Courtyard Hotel Waterfall City; Courtyard Hotel Sandton; and City Lodge Hotel Lynnwood.
In the Free State the City Lodge Hotel Bloemfontein offers a charger, while the Town Lodge Umhlanga and Road Lodge Pietermaritzburg offer chargers to guests in KwaZulu-Natal.
In the Eastern Cape the Courtyard Hotel Gqeberha has a charging station, with the Northern Cape represented by Road Lodge Kimberley.
The chargers are compatible with all new energy vehicles sold in South Africa.
The AC charging points also allow guests to use their own cables, with charging costs depending on charging time and the vehicle’s battery size.
“This initiative marks another significant step in our broader sustainability journey, ensuring we meet the evolving needs of today’s travellers, while reducing our environmental footprint,” says City Lodge Hotels COO Lindiwe Sangweni Siddo.
“Our focus has always been on making our guests’ stay easier and more comfortable.
“Introducing EV charging stations is yet another way we are elevating convenience, while supporting sustainability across the group.”
The charging stations are also available to day visitors.
“For day visitors using our meeting and boardroom facilities, or those stopping in for breakfast, lunch or a quick coffee and cake, our free high-speed WiFi makes it easy to stay connected, catch up on work, or enjoy a quiet moment of relaxation,” notes Siddo.
Chargify was established in 2023 through an investment injection by Mercedes-Benz South Africa.
To date, it has a network of more than 120 charging stations across the country.
“City Lodge Hotels’ partnering with Chargify allows guests to be at the forefront of the EV charging revolution, contributing to a greener and more sustainable future whilst advancing our ambition to be a trusted and reliable EV charging network in South Africa,” says CEO Kgosi Diphokwane.
