Compact labelling unit boosts efficiency

To meet the growing requirements of faster and increasingly powerful production lines, manufacturing company KHS, with its Innoket AutoReel, has developed a labelling system for polyethylene terephthalate bottles.
“The vast production speeds of modern systems present a number of new challenges,” explains KHS labelling technology product manager Cornelius Adolf.
He notes that, on such high-performance lines, an operator would have to attend to the labelling station every 15 minutes or so to insert a new label reel. However, with the KHS Innoket AutoReel, a line runs for up to eight hours without requiring any operator intervention.
Additionally, throughout its development, the main focus had been on the “extreme ease of operation”, with the ergonomic drawer system benefitting operators as it provides easy access.
Consequently, new reels can be individually refilled throughout ongoing operation without interrupting production.
“The drawers can be opened separately to insert a new reel. Only the drawer that’s actually in operation is locked,” Adolf states.
Moreover, the integrated buffer system ensures that there is a constant web tension between the reel magazine and labelling station ensuing a stable production process.
While reels are being changed and spliced on the KHS Innoket AutoReel, the labelling station continues unhindered without impacting on the line performance.
Moreover, the KHS Innoket AutoReel is suitable for all standard types of roll-fed label and can be flexibly integrated into existing lines featuring KHS Innoket Neo RF labelling machines or KHS InnoPET TriBlocks.
As a result of the reel array, the KHS label reel storage system is particularly compact while still providing enough space for eight reels.
Additionally, the unit’s design and the possibility for flexible installation distance and angles to the labelling station make it ideal for use in production shops where space is limited.
