Delba Electrical knocks it out of the park for a six!

“Delba Electrical continues to remain the benchmark for how all electrical rewinder processes and operations should be managed,” says SKF’s Anton Theunissen, Manager - Distribution Development, Southern Africa, after awarding the electric motor solutions specialist its sixth recertification as a SKF Certified Electrical Rebuilder in September 2016.
Factors such as substandard motor repair and rebuild, stringent production requirements or incorrect transportation, storage and installation are key drivers of premature electric motor failures; subsequent unplanned production stoppages can lead to devastating cost implications. SKF’s objective with introducing the Certified Electrical Rebuilder Programme to the South African market in December 2006 is to enhance motor reliability and extend mean time between failures (MT through improving motor repair effectiveness. Audited every two years, the Programme is a three-way partnership between the electric motor rebuilder, SKF’s authorised distributor and SKF.
Discussing the advantages of the Programme, Theunissen says that SKF’s on-going commitment to excellence in product quality, service and training is passed on to the Certified Rebuilders who in turn pass these capabilities on to their customers. “Moreover, as new products, tools and repair methods are developed, SKF Certified Rebuilders will benefit from updated procedures and on-going training.”
Delba Electrical was the first officially audited and approved company to receive Rebuilder Certification from SKF and was also the only company to be certified in 2006. Currently it is the only company to boast sixth Recertification status. “Since the initial audit, Delba Electrical maintains a proud reputation as a procedure-driven electric motor service facility that continues to produce high quality repairs and refurbishments in compliance with industry standards and practices,” according to Theunissen. “With Delba management’s strategy of implementing and maintaining consistently high standards and the support of a competent and experienced team, recertification has by now become a mere formality.”
Established in 1963, Delba Electrical is regarded as one of Southern Africa’s most trusted and highly respected electrical and mechanical engineering companies in rotating electrical motor sales, repairs, rewinding and maintenance. “Our newly completed large machines division located adjacent to the original Springs facility and headquarters, is equipped with a 100 tonne crane that provides us with the handling capacity required in this sector,” states Delba Managing Director, Dave Balocco. He adds that this world class leading large motor repair workshop incorporates the largest VPI (Vacuum Pressure Impregnation) system in Africa and is complimented by a 108m² test-bed base and HV and DC load test laboratory.
“This recent expansion has positioned Delba as one of the leading electric motor rewind facilities in Africa and certainly the largest Rebuilder Company audited to date by SKF worldwide,” notes Theunissen.
Balocco is extremely proud to achieve their sixth SKF recertification as an Electrical Rebuilder. “It affirms our mission ‘to keep industry’s wheels turning’ through dedication to providing a total electric motor solution and a commitment to the requirements of our ISO 9001 Quality Management System.”
On behalf of SKF South Africa, Theunissen congratulates Delba on this distinguished achievement. “I extend a sincere thank you to Delba’s management team for the longstanding business relationship and for their ongoing loyalty not only to SKF but also to our authorised distributor, Bearing Services Africa.”
