Toyota South Africa Motors is implementing various climate-resilience measures at its Prospecton plant (pictured), in KwaZulu-Natal, which was badly affected by severe flooding in April. The flood resulted in water entering the ground and basement levels of the plant, reaching depths of between 1.5 m and 1.8 m, and knocking out electricity, water and telecommunications services. The plant shipped its first post-flood batch of export vehicles to Europe on August 12, but is still expected to take up to six months to recover to full production levels.
