KAL Group today announced the appointment of Johann le Roux as its new Chief Executive Officer, effective 1 March 2026. Le Roux will succeed Sean Walsh, who is retiring after almost 15 years of dedicated service as CEO.

George Steyn, Chairman of KAL Group, said the appointment follows a carefully considered succession process by the board ensuring stability, continuity and continued growth. As a result, the transition is expected to be seamless, with no operational impact on the Group.

“We are pleased to welcome Johann into the role of CEO and look forward to his contributions. He is no stranger to KAL Group and already has an in-depth understanding of the business through his long-standing role on the board, its subcommittees, and as an invitee to subsidiary boards,” said Steyn.

Le Roux is a Chartered Accountant (CA(SA)) and holds a Higher Diploma in Taxation. He has been closely involved with KAL Group as a non-executive director since April 2014.  He previously served as CEO and CFO of JSE-listed Zeder Investments Limited and as a director of several of its operating subsidiaries and associates.

Steyn added that this has empowered Johann with extensive experience and knowledge of agri-business, logistics, retail, fuel and other sectors.

“His insight into both the listed and private investment environment, including mergers and acquisitions, made Johann a natural successor to lead KAL Group. He has proven himself a highly valuable non-executive board member, and we look forward to his impact as he steps into this executive leadership role,” Steyn said.

Commenting on his appointment, le Roux said he supports the Group’s F30 strategy.

“I look forward to driving, together with the experienced leadership team, the continued implementation of the board-approved five-year F30 strategy to ensure superior and sustainable growth, operational excellence and enhanced shareholder value,” said le Roux.

The Group’s two core business segments, Agrimark Operations and PEG Retail Operations, will continue under the leadership of their respective Managing Directors, Arno Abeln and Xolisa Bangazi, ensuring continuity in day-to-day operations and focus on achieving the F30 targets.

Steyn noted that under Walsh’s leadership, KAL Group transformed from a primarily agri-focused organisation into a unique, growth-oriented lifestyle retailer, offering best-in-value solutions across retail, fuel and agri-inputs in Southern Africa. This evolution included the successful repositioning and listing of the company on the JSE in 2017.

“The entire KAL Group extends its heartfelt gratitude to Sean for his leadership, dedication and many contributions. He guided us through both exciting and challenging periods, including our JSE listing and COVID-19, always with clarity, vision, heart and a touch of humour. His influence has extended well beyond our organisation into the broader agricultural sector. We wish him every success in the next chapter of his life and thank him for the exceptional legacy he leaves,” concluded Steyn.
