To strengthen its position as a trusted partner to the food industry, sustainable packaging and paper solutions provider Mondi launched its extended food packaging portfolio in November.

The portfolio includes solid board solutions and digital printing capabilities following the acquisition of European packaging manufacturer Schumacher Packaging, in April 2025, enhancing Mondi’s ability to serve clients across Europe.

With this development, Mondi offers one of the most comprehensive food packaging ranges on the market – from corrugated and solid board solutions to flexible packaging.

This expansion has enabled Mondi to support clients in meeting evolving consumer expectations, EU regulations and the growing demand for sustainable, convenient and stand-out packaging.

Mondi states that its extended offering is designed to address the “most important trends shaping the food packaging industry”.

These trends address the need for lightweighting and smaller portions, which include optimised material use, smaller packs and lighter, high-performance fibre-based materials for consumer convenience.

Another trend looks at retail ready packaging (RRP) and point-of-sale displays which are solutions that improve brand recognition, enhance shelf visibility and ensure efficiency in packing and replenishment processes.

Importantly, these trends incorporate packaging being designed to be 100% renewable or recyclable, in line with EU directives such as the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation, supporting circularity and meeting the packaging eco-design requirements for retailers’ private-label brands and manufacturers’ brands.

“The food sector is undergoing rapid change, with sustainability targets, EU legislation and shifting consumer behaviours all driving new requirements for packaging,” says Mondi Corrugated Solutions COO Paulus Goëss.

He adds that by expanding its portfolio, the company can help clients respond to these changes with solutions that are both more sustainable and optimised for shelf appeal.

Packed With Benefits

Mondi’s full corrugated and solid board portfolio works across an expanded range of food packaging solutions.

For fresh produce, Mondi provides ventilated trays, boxes and stackable trays through its Grow&Go portfolio, as well as Octabins for efficient transport.

It also supplies highstrength trays, leakproof boxes, sleeves and wraps that are designed for meat, poultry and seafood.

Its multipacks and sleeves enable safe refrigerated transport and product visibility of dairy products, while its frozen foods portfolio includes solid board boxes.

Its shelfready packaging, multipacks, wraps and innovations such as TwinBox, are best-suited for snacks and confectionery products.

Mondi also provides e-commerce packaging solutions for online grocery shopping, combining smart designs with easy-to-open, easy-to-carry features.

With a range of digital, flexographic and offset printing technologies, Mondi can meet numerous client requirements.
