Banking group FNB is leveraging telecommunications group MTN’s network to accelerate access to reliable telecommunications and Internet services for mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) FNB Connect customers.

With telecommunications and information and communications technology (ICT) services central to the integrated value propositions FNB offers, the strategic network collaboration aligns with the banking group’s efforts to leverage reliable network infrastructure in the market to accelerate the delivery of cost-effective data and voice plans, besides other ICT services.

“FNB Connect already offers an extensive array of innovative services that are accessible through FNB’s trusted digital platform, and the addition of MTN as a network partner allows customers to enjoy the best of both worlds in network quality,” said FNB CEO Jacques Celliers.

“Our ability to help customers manage both their finances and telecommunications needs through our trusted single digital platform is unique, and consistent with our aim to provide helpful, easily accessible and innovative solutions,” he continued, adding that reliable connectivity is a powerful enabler for individuals, families and businesses.

This followed technology company Cell C's recent signing of a multiyear extension of its existing agreement with FNB Connect, which has a dual vendor strategy, remaining a strategic partner for the MVNO.

"Cell C is confident that our technology platform, our extensive MVNO partner experience, range of service offerings and value propositions are competitive and will serve our varied customer segments well, enabling ever more choice for the South African consumer. We look forward to our continued relationship with the FNB Connect team while welcoming competition in the MVNO space," said Cell C Wholesale Business chief officer Stephen Morony.

Over the next few months, FNB plans to expand its range of services by introducing more cost-effective and tailored solutions for both individual and business customers, including Internet of Things solutions that empower businesses to improve efficiency and productivity.

“We will also offer fibre, fifth-generation and long-term evolution for faster Internet speeds and reliable connectivity for both residential and commercial customers," added Celliers.

MTN South Africa CEO Charles Molapisi said that the partnership is part of the group’s broader efforts to support MVNOs and other institutions that recognise the value of connectivity and Internet services for their customers.

“This partnership marks a significant milestone for both FNB and MTN, which have been instrumental in innovation in the South African market and is a further endorsement for MTN as the network of networks.

“By combining our strengths, we are poised to create a truly exceptional network experience for FNB Connect users while also enabling access to a broader range of ICT services, beyond just connectivity, for FNB customers.”
