Grindrod has announced that Xolani Mbambo is to succeed Andrew Waller, who is retiring, as CEO from January 1.

Mbambo is currently an executive director of Grindrod and its various subsidiaries, joint ventures and associate businesses.

He also leads Grindrod’s Freight Services division as its CEO.

Mbambo has been with the Grindrod group in different leadership roles since March 2013.

Before joining Grindrod, he spent 12 years in the mining sector, working for Anglo American in various roles in finance, procurement, business and dry-bulk commodity performance analysis, as well as greenfield project implementation in the group’s operations in South Africa, Botswana and the UK.

Mbambo is a chartered accountant and completed the Advanced Management Programme at Harvard Business School.
