UK-based manufacturer of Protectapeel temporary peelable protective coatings Spraylat International has appointed South African coatings company Peelable Coatings its new African distributor.

“We are delighted to have signed an agreement with Peelable Coatings,” says Spraylat International MD Andrew Keir.

He adds that Peelable Coatings’ two principals, Andre Blignaut and Ray McKenzie, are focused on developing the Protectapeel product in South Africa.

“Collectively, they bring with them a wealth of business skills and knowledge, which will help to promote the Protectapeel offering,” comments Keir.

Protectapeel is a weather-resistant, peelable protective coating for a number of non- porous substrates. The liquid coating is applied by spray or roller and dries to form a skin-tight plastic film that will protect the surface during construction or refit.

Prior to project handover, the coating is peeled off by hand, leaving the surface looking and feeling like new, he says.

Protectapeel is a water-based and environment-friendly solution that can be safely disposed of without the use of harmful chemicals.

Blignaut and McKenzie recently attended a training programme at Spraylat Inter-national’s UK head office.

Spraylat was founded in the US in 1936 as the original manufacturer of liquid applied strippable coatings and developed its customer base within the military and aviation industries, with customers like Boeing and McDonnell Douglas using the peelable coatings for protection of canopies and during fabrication and assembly.

The company developed the first cocooning system used to ship aircraft around the world on carriers. The system is still used in the shipping industry today.

In 1992, Spraylat International was formed as a separate and autonomous company and has continued to expand its range of coatings for a variety of surfaces, such as plastics, paint, glass and metals.

The company supplies many blue-chip companies, such as BAE Marine Systems, Rolls-Royce and British Nuclear Fuels, as well as to the organisers of sporting events such as the Olympic Games and Formula One.
