Project Description
The Lufeng NPP will comprise six nuclear reactors with a capacity of 1 000 MW each.

Units 5 and 6 will use Chinese-designed third-generation Hualong One reactors. The project is expected to generate about 52-billion kilowatt-hours of electricity a year, saving 15.77-million tons of standard coal and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by an estimated 42.69-million tons a year. The project will incorporate modular construction, digital building technologies and automated welding.

Planned Start/End Date
Construction of the Unit 5 and Unit 6 reactors started in 2022 and 2023 respectively, with construction scheduled to be completed in 2028 and 2029 respectively. Construction of Unit 1 started in February 2025.

Latest Developments
Shanghai Nuclear Engineering Research & Design Institute poured the first concrete for the nuclear island basemat of Lufeng Unit 2 on December 22, 2025.

Contractor China Nuclear Construction Corporation 22 (CNI22) has said that about 6 635 m3 of concrete was expected to be poured in a process lasting about 68 hours to form the foundation of Unit 2's nuclear island, measuring about 89 m long and 49 m at its widest point.
