Bids sought for Lilongwe water resources efficiency programme
Malawi’s Lilongwe Water Board (LWB) is inviting eligible bidders to prequalify for the board’s efficiency improvement works, which will be implemented as part of the €24- million Lilongwe Water Resources Efficiency Programme.
LWB CEO Alfonso Chikuni explains that the works component of the programme will include raising and rehabilitating the Kamuzu dam.
He says the dam, the biggest water reservoir in Lilongwe, Malawi’s capital city, will be raised by 7 m.
“This will be fixed raising of the spillway without anchors, and a 70 m spillway extension. The dam will be raised by 5 m using concrete and by an additional 2 m using semiautomatic deflatable rubber.” Chikuni says the dam will also be rehabilitated.
He says that the scope of the works also includes the replacement of the pumping mains.
The water board is also looking to prequalify bidders for the supply of the goods component of the Lilongwe Water Efficiency Improvement Programme. The goods will include steel/ ductile iron pipes and fittings for the pumping system, PVC pipes and fittings for the distribution system and prepaid meters.
The consultancy services to be outsourced include construction supervision of the raising and rehabilitation of Kamuzu Dam 1, construction supervision of the pumping mains and improvement/enhancement of the billing system.
Meanwhile, the LWB is inviting bids for the supply and delivery of 5 000 prepaid water meters and associated services.
Bid documents in English are obtainable on submission of a written application and payment of a nonrefundable fee of $25.
The bids will be valid for 118 days after bid opening and must be accompanied by a bid security of $10.
The deadline for the submission of bids is November 6.
