Minsud announces maiden resource estimate for Chinchillones complex
TSX-V-listed Minsud Resources has unveiled a maiden pit-constrained mineral resource estimate for the Chinchillones complex deposit, part of the Chita Valley project in Argentina's San Juan province.
The resource estimate, completed in collaboration with Minera Sud Argentina S.A. (MSA) – a joint venture between Minsud (49.9%) and South32 (50.1%) – showcases the results of an extensive drilling programme carried out from 2019 to 2024. MSA has led exploration efforts at Chinchillones, focusing on expanding the resource base and advancing development potential.
The estimate outlines indicated resources of 188-million tonnes grading 0.41% copper equivalent, comprising 0.25% copper, 0.11 g/t gold, 10.6 g/t silver, 36 parts per million (ppm) molybdenum, and 0.16% zinc. This translates to contained metals of 776 000 t of copper equivalent, 466 000 t of copper, 674 000 oz of gold, 63.5-million ounces of silver, 6 800 t of molybdenum, and 291 000 t of zinc.
The inferred category adds another 573-million tonnes at 0.36% copper equivalent, containing 2.05-million tonnes of copper equivalent, 1.24-million tonnes of copper, 1.65-million ounces of gold, 165.6-million ounces of silver, 53 200 t of molybdenum, and 616 000 t of zinc.
“This initial resource estimate represents a significant milestone in the development of the Chinchillones Complex and the broader Chita Valley project. The results highlight the deposit's substantial development potential and provide a robust basis for advancing our exploration and growth strategy,” said Minsud director Ramiro Massa.
Massa noted that the Chita Valley project offers competitive advantages compared with traditional high-Andean mining ventures. At an altitude of 3 000 m, the deposit benefits from favourable climate conditions, year-round accessibility, and proximity to infrastructure and essential services, which collectively translate to lower capital expenditure and operational costs.
The deposit’s mineralisation, which remains open at depth, supports the potential for future exploration and development. Preliminary metallurgical studies indicate suitability for openpit mining and flotation processes, with copper, silver, and gold identified as primary economic drivers, complemented by molybdenum and zinc.
