Project Description
In October 2013, a consortium led by Sonnedix was awarded preferred bidder status by South Africa’s Department of Energy under the third round of the department’s Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme.
The project aims to construct and operate a large-scale solar PV power project, with a total generation capacity of 86 MW, enough to power an estimated 30 000 households.
Value
The project represents an investment of more than R1.2-billion.
Duration
Construction is expected to start in the first quarter of 2015 and commercial operations by the third quarter of 2016.
Latest Developments
The Mulilio/Sonnedix consortium has closed all main project contracts for a large-scale PV power project, financing facilities agreements with Nedbank and Standard Bank, engineering procurement and construction (EPC) arrangements with Juwi Renewable Energies, and a power purchase agreement with State-owned power utility Eskom.
Negotiations are still being finalised with a PV module supplier. The project will be configured as fixed tilt plant and will incorporate 300 000 PV modules.
