Celebrating 40 years in business this year, South African tank and container supplier Container World last month bought 20 container tanks, which were delivered to the company’s Durban depot, in KwaZulu-Natal.

“The 25 000-ℓ tank containers will help in us securing more projects in East Africa, where they are going to be needed for static storage, as well as transporting product by road from South Africa into Maputo and/or Palma,” explains Container World MD Darren Singh.

Investing in the tanks was also prompted by demand for, and the shortage of supply in, these tanks on the international markets.

The shortage has led to increased pricing, with South Africa’s volatile return on equity making these tanks expensive, he adds.

The products that can be stored in the tanks include several fuel types, food-grade products, and water.

“Some of these tanks are kitted out with pumps to make dispensing easy for the transporters, who are the primary users of these tanks.”

Container World has also successfully completed other projects in Africa and internationally, where the company’s tanks were required.

The company was responsible for storing water for human consumption during water shortages in Cape Town, in 2018, and supplied tanks for storing virgin transformer oil to Rotek – construction, maintenance and transport service provider for Eskom operations.

The company has also supplied tanks to companies in Antarctica to store fuel.

“We have also sold tanks in South Africa and the rest of Africa to various chemicals companies, as well as to companies that store food-grade products,” adds Singh.

Further, the tanks enable businesses active in the logistics industry to securely store fuel or liquid products “on the ground” in South Africa – especially products that are procured from other African countries – which, in turn, helps these companies to manage costs.

Container World ensures that all tanks are cleaned at nearby cleaning depots. The company is ISO 9001:2015 compliant, and prides itself on attaining the assurance and risk management standards of Det Norske Veritas-Germanischer Lloyd, or DNV-GL, which is important for organisations to acquire as the DNV-GL standard promotes the safeguarding of life, property and the environment.

“Container World is a family-owned business, founded 40 years ago by Christopher Lee. We started supplying tanks 25 years ago and we’ve never looked back,” Singh enthuses.
