New water utility to be launched for Emfuleni local municipality
A water utility will be launched on November 3 by the Emfuleni local municipality and Rand Water to enhance the provision of water and sanitation services within the municipality.
The new water utility is set to assume full responsibility for the implementation, management and maintenance of water and sanitation service systems, seeking to ensure sustainable basic service delivery to residents, businesses and industries in the area.
“The establishment of the utility was initiated to respond to the growing demand for reliable and efficient water services that aligns with national priorities for water security,” Rand Water said in a statement issued on Tuesday.
It also aims to restore public confidence by prioritising efficiency, accountability and transparency in the management of water and sanitation resources as it commits to ensuring the reliable delivery of water and sanitation services while addressing the pressing challenges that have affected communities in recent years.
In addition to its responsibility for implementing sustainable solutions that will enhance access to clean water and effective sanitation systems, the utility will also focus on introducing innovative technologies and environment-friendly practices to promote long-term sustainability.
The utility is also mandated to collaborate with all municipal and sectoral stakeholders and foster collaboration to achieve seamless service delivery and infrastructure development.
“For both the Emfuleni local municipality and Rand Water the establishment of the utility symbolises their commitment to sustainable water and sanitation management, and at the same time providing a solid foundation for future growth and development.”
As part of its obligations, Rand Water is dedicated to supporting local communities and ensuring that the transition of responsibilities from the Emfuleni local municipality to the newly established utility runs smoothly and efficiently.
