AI-powered financial technology (fintech) company Optasia has closed its initial public offering (IPO) of more than 342-million shares at a price of R19 each for a total of R6.5-billion, or about $375-million.

The offer generated significant interest in South Africa and internationally and was multiple times oversubscribed, the company says.

Further, based on a total of 1.24-billion ordinary shares in issue, the offer price implies a market capitalisation of R23.5-billion. The offer shares will represent 28% of the company’s total issued ordinary shares, it adds.

The settlement date for the offer and the admission date on which shares could be traded was November 4.

Optasia on October 8 announced its intention to list its ordinary shares on the JSE main board. It had proposed to undertake a primary issuance of R1.3-billion, or about $75-million, to support its growth organically and through future potential acquisitions.

Optasia had also proposed a secondary share sale from certain existing shareholders of at least R4.4-billion, or about $251-million, by way of a private placement to selected qualified investors.
