The Department of Mineral Resources and Energy has announced that the petrol price will increase by R1.21 a litre for all grades from midnight on March 5.

The price of 0.05% sulphur diesel will increase by more than R1.05 a litre and the price of 0.005% sulphur diesel by nearly R1.19 a litre.

Illuminating paraffin will increase by 64c a litre and the maximum retail liquefied petroleum gas price by 41c/kg.

The increases are the result of an increase in the average Brent crude oil price to $82.50/bl, from $82.03/bl in the prior month, as well as a slight depreciation of the rand against the dollar.
