Electrical solutions and lighting specialist organisation Magnet Group has been appointed to exclusively distribute and support the German market-leading premium range of manufacturer Trilux’s lighting solutions in South Africa.

The Trilux range showcases multi- award-winning products for aesthetics, energy efficiency and safety for indoor and outdoor use. The range encompasses indoor luminaires, downlights and spotlights, trunking and diffusers, as well as outdoor luminaires, spotlights and floodlights.

“This range enables Magnet to enter into top-end lighting applications where quality and simplicity are of the utmost importance. We are now able to engineer for the toughest demands, with guarantees of up to ten years in ambient temperatures in excess of 60 ºC,” Magnet Energy divisional head Dean Lotter tells Engineering News.

He adds that Magnet will focus on supplying the Trilux range for office, hospital, warehousing, factory, outdoor and parkade applications.

Intelligent lighting solutions are adaptable to create not only suitable illumination for specific application areas – custom-designed Trilux solutions enable Magnet engineers to create energy efficient lighting concepts that meet individual requirements. For example, luminaires and accessories, designed especially for business locations, ensure suitable lighting for reception areas, offices, corridors, meeting rooms, restrooms and parking areas.

Sustainable lighting solutions are adaptable for healthcare establishments, where correct lighting levels create a sense of wellbeing for patients, while enabling doctors and nurses to work efficiently. “Trilux showcases an exceptional range of circadian rhythm lighting which is scientifically proven to speed up healing time,” advises Lotter.

Modern lighting is also critical in academic institutions, he says, contributing to improved teaching and learning conditions, which improves outcomes.

“Energy efficient lighting is also becoming increasingly important in the industrial sector. Modern lighting reduces operating costs, improves visual conditions and enhances concentration, improving productivity and operating safety, as well as protecting the environment by integration into control networks.”

Further, to provide a comprehensive lighting solution, lighting control systems include intelligent light management, energy-saving and colour control systems, as well as manual controls.

Magnet offers an intelligent LiveLink light management system, which uses advanced sensor technology for simple and reliable control of all light points – even complex lighting systems. “LiveLink can be integrated to optimise energy savings and allow for individualised lighting while facilitating effortless planning, installation and modifications.”

This lighting control system intuitively guides planners and installers through preconfigured rooms with typical applications to provide individually adapted light, with minimum effort. Commissioning and operation are implemented using a graphical user interface on mobile iOS or Android end devices.

Future Lighting
Lotter avers that lighting is evolving quickly – from a simple standalone infrastructure to an integrated and intelligent technology. “Just as cellphones are no longer used to make only phone calls, luminaires are no longer just sources of light and are becoming far more interactive.”

He looks forward to the next decade, since luminaires can now be interactive and provide a host of data. Through data connection, retail luminaires can track and guide shoppers to specific areas of a store to find specials or complete a pre-prepared shopping list, for example, or outdoor luminaires can monitor human behaviour or increase light levels at the scene of an accident.

“Imagine entering your office building and the reception light-emitting diode (LED) luminaire is communicating to your personal office luminaires to signal your arrival, and then automatically setting your office lighting according to your preferences at a certain time of day.”

Through LED, lighting control and intelligence, the lighting industry is entering a new dawn and leaving conventional lighting behind, concludes Lotter.
