Pumping with flavour for multiproduct lines
Verder Pumps Hygienic Product manager Kenneth Demeulemeester discusses the growing demand for multi-product lines in the brewery and winery industry. Camerawork: Halima Frost. Editing: Nicholas Boyd. Recorded: 19.10.20
Industrial equipment supplier Verder Group has recently redesigned the structure of its hygienic brands – this included rebranding and adding sanitary pump supplier JEC JR’s series of pumps to its diverse pumping portfolio under Packo.
The Packo JRZS series of twin-screw pumps are suited to the brewery and winery industry, where the Packo ZW rotary lobe pumps are specifically suited to the production of red wines.
“The JRZS twin-screws can pump liquids that have various viscosities, making them suitable for a multiproduct line,” enthuses Verder Pumps hygienic product manager Kenneth Demeulemeester.
The pumps were designed for the reliable pumping of low- to high-viscous, volatile or gaseous products and applications to fulfil the utmost hygienic and efficiency requirements.
He adds that the pumps are produced according to the highest hygienic specifications, such as European Hygienic Engineering and Design Group (EHEDG), and 3-A Sanitary Standards-certified manufacturing processes.
The JRZS series was developed as a series of single units, each with a large-radius corner screw case design, a compact front-loaded self-balanced mechanical sealing system,a fully drainable front cover and an integral geared adaptor, and coupled with a B5, four-pole motor.
The standard-type JRZS pumps provide the most cost- and space-effective solution, owing to the size of the four-pole motors and higher efficiency, instead of being coupled with six- or eight-pole motors.
Demeulemeester adds that the concept of a multiproduct line has become ever more popular, as modern facilities move from a dedicated production line for each product to an innovative multiproduct line.
Such product lines could be processing several different liquids or flavours every day, he adds.
Demeulemeester suggests that the move to multiproduct lines can be attributed to a substantial increase in micro and craft or artisanal brewers entering the market.
This has placed pressure on the industrial or mass producers to keep up with modern consumer tastes and corporate retail demands for new flavours and fads.
Consequently, this creates growing demand for a greater quantity of product lines.
“Verder Pumps has been instrumental in offering multiproduct pumping solutions for clients who supply original-equipment manufacturer (OEM) solutions in the brewery and winery sector, and continues to offer high-grade hygienic options in its pumping solutions.”
Additional offerings from Verder Pumps suited to the brewery and winery sector include the Verdermix range of static and dynamic mixers, and the Verderflex peristaltic pumps.
“Verder supplies about 12 000 hygienic food-grade pumps a year to OEMs servicing the food and beverage and brewery industries, affirming the company’s capabilities in these sectors,” concludes Demeulemeester.
