Rand Water on Thursday reported that all stations are pumping at full load after an explosion of a motor connected to one of the pumps at Zuikerbosch water treatment plant on Tuesday led to the temporary shutdown of operations.

In a previous statement released on Wednesday night, the water utility said that the explosion had a ripple effect and affected the entire Engine Room 4.

At the time, partial operations at Engine Room 4 were restored, however, pumping was at a reduced capacity of 75%.

On Thursday morning, Rand Water posted on X that it had successfully completed the work required and all stations were now pumping at full load.

The system, which supplies water to the Palmiet, Eikenhof, Mapleton and Zwartkopjes booster stations, experienced a loss of 1 800 megalitres per day (M/d).

About 1 400 M/d had been recovered by Wednesday with the technical teams were working tirelessly to recover the balance.

The disruption impacted reservoirs within the Palmiet, Eikenhof and Mapleton systems, and some areas experienced low water pressure or temporary water outages.
