Professional sawing and drilling contractors have shown significant interest in the new Titan high-frequency wall saw, which is borne out by the several orders pending final financial clearance by companies, diamond tools and equipment manufacturer and supplier Diamond Products director Darryl Gray tells Engineering News.

Diamond Products showcased the new Titan wall-saw range, which the company introduced onto the South African market in June, at the first bauma Africa trade show. The event was held at the Gallagher Convention Centre, in Johannesburg, last month.

The wall-saw range received a positive response at this international trade fair for construction machinery, building material machines, mining machines and construction vehicles, and several further enquiries were received by Diamond Products.

Diamond Products codirector Brian Clark is confident that the Titan high-frequency range of wall saws will gain measurable market share across Africa over the next three to five years.

“Investment in infrastructure develop- ment in Africa is continuing to increase at an exponential rate and the Titan range of high-frequency wall saws is poised to provide a viable solution for specialist sawing and cutting contractors servicing the construction and infrastructure sectors,” he states.

“We decided to stock this wall saw as it is lightweight, portable, powerful and offers the latest technology in high-frequency electric motors,” he explains, adding that the Titan wall saws are generally used for specialised demolition of reinforced concrete structures and on walls and floors.

Further, Clark adds that diamond sawing offers a nondestructive method of concrete demolition, which is most commonly used where partial demolition of a structure is required.

The technologically advanced Titan high-frequency wall saws can be diagnostically tested and even repaired using mobile phone technology.

“In the event of failure, Diamond Products can log directly into the Titan control unit through the telediagnostic service and telemaintenance system using mobile communication to detect and address the cause of failure,” says Gray.

This technologically advanced system allows for the machine’s parameters to be modified for special applications and for the latest programme versions of the automatic control system to be transmitted to any control unit, regardless of time or location.

“The remote system also has tracking capabilities, thereby reducing losses related to theft,” adds Gray.

Clark highlights that the Austrian-manu- factured Titan wall saw boasts a greater life expectancy than competitor electric wall saws owing to its low motor-speed design.

“The motor speed is just 6 500 rpm, compared with the industry standard of 30 000 rpm, ensuring a significant reduction in maintenance and service costs,” he emphasises.

With high torque and lower speeds, the Titan range of high-frequency wall saws can accommodate blades of up to 2 000 mm in diameter, while offering operators high performance and precision.

Clark notes that these wall saws operate at maximum precision using ARIX G2X Diamond blades, in which diamonds are aligned in an almost gridlike pattern to allow for consistent drilling and sawing speeds.

“In industry-standard tools, diamonds are mixed randomly throughout the segment, which results in wear and tear, as different areas of the surface carry inconsistent workloads. With the alignment of diamonds in separate rows, ARIX technology ensures that each diamond carries precisely the same workload, allowing for quicker and more accurate cutting,” he explains.

Further, Gray adds that another important aspect of the Titan high-frequency wall saw is its ability to accommodate a drive pulley for wire-sawing applications using specialised pulley and storage attachments, which elimi- nates the need to acquire large and costly machines for multiple machining jobs.

“This attachment makes the Titan high- frequency wall saw a two-in-one machine and enables the user to select a cutting method appropriate to a specific application. Diamond Products ARIX razor wire is compatible with the saw and delivers an efficient cutting speed, while providing the contractor with an ideal cutting solution in the toughest applications,” he states.

Further, Clark points out that the blade and the feed operations of the Titan wall saw are electrically driven by motors of between 11 kW and 22 kW, thereby eliminating the need for costly and bulky hydraulic power packs on site.

“This makes the Titan high-frequency wall-saw units lightweight and compact, without compromising on power and durability. This also ensures greater ease of transportation, improved use of space and eliminates environmentally hazardous leaks, which are common in many industry-standard hydraulic wall saws,” he highlights.
