Lighting products supplier BEKA Schréder has supplied exterior lighting solutions to Skukuza Safari Lodge, which was officially opened last November.

Located in one of the largest game reserves in Africa, the Kruger National Park, the newly built lodge offers tourism facilities for local and international visitors, and boasts 128 units.

This locally manufactured exterior lighting solution includes BEKA LEDPOST installed throughout the lodge’s facilities and BEKA SERIES 30 installed at the back-of-house area.

BEKA Schréder regional manager Gordon Arons notes that both provide energy efficient outdoor area lighting.

The BEKA LEDPOST is a light-emitting diode (LED) bollard luminaire that has been designed for orientation lighting and security marking and ensures a long lifetime, as it takes Africa’s harsh thermal and environmental conditions into account.

Arons explains that the bollard consists of a high-pressure die-cast head containing the LED light source and optic, as well as a pole base assembly. The LEDs are designed for ambient temperatures of up to 35 ºC, resulting in a lifetime of about 100 000 operating hours.

To maximise the reliability of the LEDs, the photometric engine is completely sealed to IP 66. This ensures that the photometric performance is maintained over time.

Further, electronic temperature-monitoring prevents the LEDs and their power supply, positioned next to LEDs, from overheating.

The BEKA LEDPOST has also been equipped with a highly efficient LED light source. This distinct design protects pedestrians and drivers from glare, and prevents spill light from being emitted in an upward direction.

The BEKA SERIES 30 is a round LED bulkhead, manufactured from high-quality materials and designed for ease of installation, with low maintenance requirements.

Further, owing to LEDs being the light source, high energy savings are achieved.

BEKA Schréder locally develops and manufactures energy-efficient LED lighting products, designed and suitable for local conditions.

“We are proud to be associated with local organisation South African National Parks’ technical team and local architect company Tom Hattingh Architects in providing a successful outdoor area lighting solution for this prestigious project.

“We will continue to drive our expertise in the market and strive to continue holding our position as Africa’s leading luminaires manufacturer,” he concludes.
