Aim-listed Tertiary Minerals has delineated a large copper-in-soil anomaly at the Mupala project, in Zambia.

The company on July 29 reported on field analytical results received from a soil sampling programme, saying the anomaly confirms the prospectively of the licence in addition to historical data and its proximity to other copper prospects.

Although more work is required to determine the significance of this soil anomaly, it is a promising start to exploration at Mupala, says Tertiary chairperson Patrick Cheetham.

Mupala is located on the west side of the Kabompo Dome, in the Domes Region of Zambia. This region reportedly hosts multiple producing copper and nickel mines including First Quantum Minerals’ Trident project.

The soil sampling programme involved the collection of 684 samples, with the anomaly estimated to be 1 800 m long and 600 m wide with a peak value of 422 parts per million and is broadly coincident with a surface geochemical anomaly defined by Mwinilunga Mines in the 1960s.

A subset of samples will be submitted for laboratory-based geochemical analysis.
