Heavy equipment manufacturer Liebherr Zambia has successfully delivered two R 9350 300 t excavators to Zambia-based mining contractor Kascco, with the most recent handover taking place in late-August.

The R 9350 excavators are not only the largest Liebherr machines supplied to Kascco, but represent the largest mining excavators in Kascco’s entire fleet. Kascco is one of the largest mining contractors in Zambia.

The first unit was commissioned in April, followed by the second in August, both at the Sentinel copper mine, which is part of copper major First Quantum Mineral’s Trident project, in north-western Zambia.

The new R 9350s join an existing fleet of Liebherr equipment at the Sentinel mine, which includes 15 T 284 rigid-frame ultra-class 360-t-class dump trucks, two R 9250 100 t excavators and two R 9100 excavators.

While Liebherr and Kascco have worked together for several years primarily focusing on construction-sized equipment, the R 9350 excavator order marks the first machines delivered by Liebherr’s mining product segment to Kascco.

The handover ceremony, held on site in late August, was attended by representatives from both organisations.

“The addition of these excavators marks a significant milestone for Kascco, as we firmly believe the Liebherr R 9350 will be a transformative asset in enhancing productivity, reliability and overall efficiency across our mining operations,” says Kascco operations director Omar Fakir.

On-site Support

The team from Liebherr Zambia managed the delivery of the R 9350 excavators and will provide ongoing technical support from their satellite site in Kalumbila to ensure Kascco maximises the performance of their new excavator fleet.

Embedded Liebherr technicians will be stationed on site to deliver expert assistance and maintenance services.

“The Liebherr Zambia team has provided invaluable support in facilitating the acquisition of our two Liebherr R 9350 excavators. Their professionalism, efficiency and deep understanding of our operational requirements ensured a seamless process from initiation to completion,” says Fakir.

He adds that Kascco values the partnership established with Liebherr and is confident that this collaboration will continue to deliver long-term benefits for both organisations as it pursues operational excellence and sustainable growth.

“We look forward to supporting Kascco in achieving continued success and building a long and successful relationship together,” says Liebherr Zambia operations MD Sebastien Tomasina.
