Background

This event is part of Innovate UK’s Energy Access initiative aimed at accelerating innovations in renewable, zero-emission, and sustainable energy to achieve Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 7 — providing clean and modern energy access for all.

It is organised with the support of Innovate UK Global Alliance Africa – a six-year (2019-2025) project funded by UK International Development – which aims to build new and stronger UK-African partnerships, to maximise the creation of inclusive market access, funding and investment opportunities through innovation knowledge transfer between the UK, Kenya, Nigeria and South Africa.

The initiative is funded by the Ayrton Fund – a £1-billion UK Government initiative (2021–2026) supporting clean energy research, development and demonstration in developing countries through Official Development Assistance. Part of the UK’s International Climate Finance, it aims to make clean energy the most affordable and accessible option while supporting SDGs 7 and 13, COP26 Glasgow Breakthroughs, and the Green Grids Initiative.
