The upcoming Sustainable Infrastructure Development Symposium South Africa (Sidssa), which will take place in Cape Town from November 28 to 30, will focus on green hydrogen, Minister in the Presidency Mondli Gungubele has confirmed.

In a post-Cabinet briefing, Gungubele added that the third edition of Sidssa would be held in partnership with German development agency GIZ, and would take place at Century City.

“The symposium will bring together decision-makers, financial institutions, academics and international authorities.

“The event will afford the country the opportunity to showcase some of the large and low-cost world-class green hydrogen production hubs,” the Cabinet statement reads.

Earlier this year, Cabinet approved the Hydrogen Society Roadmap and ahead of the COP27 climate talks in Egypt it approved the Just Energy Transition Investment Plan (JET-IP), which includes a green hydrogen component.

The JET-IP identifies investment priorities valued at R1.5-trillion for the coming five years, covering electricity, electric vehicles and green hydrogen.
