VW shows concept version of the entry-level electric car it will roll out in 2027
Volkswagen has unveiled the concept look of a small, entry-level electric car it plans to roll out in Europe in 2027.
This car should cost in the region of R400 000 in Europe. Pricing – should the vehicle come to South Africa – could, however, be very different owing to our tax structure and import duty regime.
The German car maker says the production version of the ID.EVERY1 should be attractive to private and commercial customers.
New software architecture should also allow lifelong updates and upgrades of production models as they age.
Volkswagen’s plan is to roll out nine new models by 2027 – two years from now – including four electric models based on a new modular electric drive platform with front-wheel drive.
Next year will already see the European launch of the electric ID.2all, at a price tag of roughly R500 000.
With the introduction of these new electric vehicles, Volkswagen believes it will offer the most diverse portfolio in what it calls the high-volume, new-vehicle sales segment – from combustion-engine models and hybrids to all-electric vehicles.
“The ID.EVERY1 is the last piece of the puzzle on our journey to having the widest model selection in the volume segment,” says Volkswagen Passenger Cars CEO Thomas Schäfer.
“We will then offer every customer the right car with the right drive system – including affordable entry-level all-electric mobility.
“We will expand our position as the world’s leading volume manufacturer in terms of technology by 2030, and as a brand for everyone – just as you would expect from Volkswagen.”
The ID.EVERY1 concept vehicle reaches a top speed of 130 km/h and is powered by a newly developed electric drive motor with 70 kW.
The range is at least 250 km, says Volkswagen.
With a length of 3 880 mm, the vehicle is positioned between the former up! (3 600 mm) and the current Polo (4 074 mm).
Inside, it offers space for four people and a luggage compartment volume of 305 l.
