Pretoria Protein’s steam crisis put its operations at risk, highlighting why reliable suppliers are essential. Here’s how Energy Partners (EP) delivered a full solution in just 48 hours.

In October 2024, Pretoria Protein, one of South Africa’s first energy-neutral, soybean crushing plants, faced an unexpected steam shortage during the commissioning of its new facility.

With production hanging in the balance, EP’s Steam division delivered a critical solution within just 48 hours, showcasing the importance of reliable partnerships in times of crisis.

Rapid response saves the day

The crisis unfolded over a weekend, with Pretoria Protein urgently needing a steam solution to keep operations running. EP responded immediately, deploying a rental boiler and all necessary equipment.

Incredibly, within a mere 48 hours, the solution was delivered, installed and fully operational, preventing costly downtime.

The turnaround is even more remarkable given the project’s complexity. EP’s Steam team was tasked with setting up an entire boiler house, including pipework, a water treatment system and integration with the facility’s compressed natural gas distribution point.

Despite the high-pressure environment, EP Steam’s mechanical and electrical teams ensured the system was operational, safe and compliant. Their technical expertise and dedication to quality were key to overcoming the challenge, underscoring the importance of working with partners who are prepared, reliable and committed to their client’s success.

Lessons for South African businesses

In high-stakes industries, crises are inevitable. However, businesses with dependable suppliers are better equipped to manage these challenges and minimise disruptions.

Pretoria Protein’s challenge could have escalated into a costly crisis, but EP’s ability to deliver a comprehensive solution at speed, and over a weekend, highlights why trusted partnerships are essential for operational resilience.

For South African companies, this is a reminder to evaluate the strength of their supply chains so that, in emergencies, suppliers can be trusted to have the technical skills and ability to act swiftly and decisively.

When the stakes are high, reliable suppliers like EP provide the assurance that, no matter the challenge, they will be there to keep your business moving forward.
