Last month, Instrotech introduced its Kobold’s calorimetric (KAL-D) flow meters with an integrated microcontroller that allows users to adapt the device to individual process conditions.

The KAL-D continuously monitors water-based liquids. It finds service in all applications where flow currents with minimum pressure loss are to be accurately monitored.

The KAL-D’s intelligent compensation function ensures stable switching points, even during significant temperature fluctuations.

The electronic flow monitor model KAL-D works according to the calorimetric principle, continuously monitoring water-based liquids.

The sensor tip is heated to a few degrees above the temperature of the flowing medium. When the medium flows, heat generated in the probe is dissipated by the medium. In other words, the probe is cooled down.

This cooling sequence precisely measures the flow velocity.

The sensor signal is compared with reference data stored in a microcontroller. An alarm signal is generated when the desired flow velocity is reached.

Simple calibration and optimal temperature compensation are achieved with a microcontroller.

The KAL-D finds service in all applications where flow currents, with minimum pressure loss, need to be accurately monitored. The one-part design of the measuring probe also considerably reduces dirt sensitivity.

Other features include the KAL-D switches, made of stainless steel, offering switching ranges from about 0.04 to 2 m/s in liquids about 1 to 20 m/s in air.

Connections on the KAL-D include a gas 0.25 thread size, a gas 0.5 thread size, with a national pipe thread (NPT) and M12 connector.

Notably the NPT thread is slightly tapered, while the gas connection is straight.

The KAL-D can withstand a maximum pressure of 100 bar as well as a maximum temperature of about 120 °C with a 2% repeatability offering.

The KAL-D boasts a range of process connections, is easy to customise, commission and install, and has no moving parts.
