Generator manufacturer opens new Brakpan premises
Electric generator manufacturer Mahindra Powerol South Africa (SA) has recently opened its new premises in Brakpan, Gauteng. The new assembly plant has been established to cater to the growing demand for diesel power generation units in Southern Africa.
The diesel generation industry services the market trend to install reliable power generation close to the point of use. Mahindra Powerol SA chose Brakpan as the ideal location for the new assembly plant as it is well connected by high-speed road transport to their nationwide network of dealerships that install and maintain the machinery on behalf of their customers.
“Minimal delays due to traffic congestion, as well as the well-priced real estate in that area, influenced the decision that Brakpan was the ideal location for the headquarters of the operation,” says Mahindra Powerol South Africa MD Neal Palmer.
He adds that Mahindra Powerol’s “customer first” approach is at the core of the company’s strategy. The company’s motto “Power to Perform” encapsulates the role that diesel generation plays in overcoming the uncertainty of power supply throughout the Southern African region.
“The scale of the demand from customers who recognise this need for ‘Power to Perform’ required an assembly line and test facility to rapidly and repeatedly assemble units in accordance with original equipment manufacturers (OEM) global specifications,” he notes.
Mahindra Powerol SA’s passion for replicating the culture of customer-centricity originates from the manufacturing works at Pune, India. Powerol is a division of Mahindra & Mahindra which has been manufacturing diesel generation units for more than 20 years with more than 400 000 machines installed worldwide. It is this passion that permeates every facet of the company, whether it be logistics, assembly and testing, or ongoing availability of spare parts, service and support.
The fact that Mahindra Powerol’s Head of Global Business Sanjay Jain came especially to attend the opening of the new works, shows the importance that this Indian giant places on the Southern Africa region.
For the customer, dealing with a local distributor connected directly with the OEM has many advantages.
“Access to this depth of skill and experience in solving power-related problems is what Mahindra Powerol SA brings directly to the customer through its national network of dealers. Everybody shares the ‘customer first’ philosophy, ensuring peace of mind for a customer to whom uninterruptible electric power is an essential component of their business,” says Palmer.
All Powerol units are standard and use original parts for servicing, which guarantees serviceability and repairability throughout the life of the unit. Skills transfer and training are a high priority, and two head office technicians are currently attending the Global Capability Development Programme in Pune, where they are learning skills alongside technicians drawn from some of the 100 companies globally that install Mahindra generators.
“Mahindra Powerol South Africa stands proudly alongside the other OEM brands represented in South Africa. This pride comes from trusting in reliable, powerful, efficient, super-silent generators optimised to meet the most stringent emission standards,” Palmer concludes.
