Liquid cooling solutions ready for the future of AI factories
Specialist in digital transformation of energy management and automation Schneider Electric has unveiled its portfolio of end-to-end liquid cooling solutions for hyperscale, colocation and high-density data centre environments, engineered to enable future AI factories.
The company says its acquisition of Motivair in early 2025 pairs its supply chain and data centre infrastructure, software, and services experience with Motivair’s exascale and accelerated computing capability to deliver a new generation of comprehensive cooling solutions.
Available globally, the Motivair by Schneider Electric cooling solutions are designed to meet the power and graphics processing unit-intensive demands of high-density data centres. The portfolio comprises data centre physical infrastructure, including coolant distribution units (CDUs), rear door heat exchangers (RDHx), heat dissipation units (HDUs), dynamic cold plates, chillers and more, as well as software and services. These are all designed to handle the thermal management requirements of next-generation high-performance computing, AI and accelerated computing workloads.
The solutions are engineered to safeguard peak performance, while enhancing energy efficiency and uptime for data centre operators. The portfolio includes:
- CDUs: designed for seamless integration with next-gen processors and accelerators. Scales from 105 kW to 2.5 MW. Enables thermal performance for 6 of the world’s top 10 supercomputers, certified for NVIDIA’s latest hardware and equipped for future increases in rack density.
- ChilledDoor RDHx: cools rack densities up to 75 kW, ideal for power-intensive GPUs. Rack-agnostic design makes it versatile for any high-performance computing environment.
- Liquid-to-air HDUs: Suitable for AI accelerators, co-location environments, or laboratories where water is not readily available. The Motivair HDU is said to be the highest-performing unit on the market, delivering 100 kW of heat rejection in a footprint 600 mm wide. It is also capable of creating a water loop to cool up to 132 kW of cooling capacity, which is a 1:1 ratio with NVIDIA’s NVL144 computing architecture.
- Chillers and technology cooling system loops: Motivair and Schneider Electric’s closed loop air cooled chillers aim to enable operators to save millions of gallons of water usage each year for every megawatt of cooling requirement, while delivering up to 20% more performance than other solutions.
- Software: Schneider Electric’s EcoStruxure software is purpose-built to meet the air and liquid cooling challenges of data centres — designed to provide optimal thermal management, performance, and efficiencies for mission-critical environments.
- Services: Motivair oversees the largest installed base of high-density liquid cooling solutions globally, with trained technicians, cooling field service technicians and EcoXpert cooling partners available worldwide.
“AI is the next technological revolution, and it has undoubtedly made liquid cooling a strategic imperative for data centres and AI factories,” said Schneider Electric senior VP: cooling business Andrew Bradner.
