New cavity pump significantly reduces maintenance downtime

Pumping solutions manufacturer Franklin Electric South Africa last month launched its new range of cost-saving Mono EZstrip progressive cavity pumps into the Southern African market.

The new Mono EZstrip transfer pump is easy to install and drastically reduces downtime, as pump maintenance, cleaning and repairs can be carried out in situ. The new range of pumps does not require any special tools or operational skills and can be refitted into existing applications.

The development of the Mono EZstrip transfer pump has been recognised as one of the biggest leaps in progressive cavity pump design in 30 years.

Extensive research was carried out before the development of the Mono EZstrip transfer pump, which considered various factors, among them the typical problems faced by customers in the wastewater industry.

Global research established that the two biggest hurdles clients faced when using conventional progressive cavity pumps was the need for a greater handling capacity and the inconvenience of maintenance downtime.

While standard progressive cavity pumps have to be dismantled and taken away to be serviced, the new EZstrip technology provides for a simple and efficient way to disassemble, derag and maintain the pump in situ without having to dismantle suction and discharge pipework.

All rotating parts can be easily removed and deragging operations require only a spanner and Allen key. As such, routine maintenance that would normally take most of the day to complete can now be achieved in under 30 minutes.

Currently, the removal of rotating parts from a progressive cavity pump can take up to a full day; however, with the EZstrip transfer pump, the entire drivetrain – including the rotor, stator, shaft, rod and seal – can be removed in less than four minutes. Further, the new Mono EZstrip transfer pump has a handling capacity of up to 225 m3/h.

Other advantages of the new Mono EZstrip transfer pump include ease of installation when the pump is installed on base plates, which Franklin Electric also supplies. The pumps are also available in cast iron or stainless steel, with a choice of rotor and stator materials to suit individual applications. Further, a pre-assembled drive0train is available with a two-year warranty and allows for even faster reassembly time.

Owing to the pump’s ability to reduce maintenance downtime, labour savings are also significantly increased. The new technology employed on the pump eliminates the need for dismantling lengths and significantly reduces the space needed for maintenance to take place. Finally, the Mono EZstrip has an optional dry run protection feature that can further reduce maintenance costs and increase uptime.

The transfer pumps can be installed in new plants or fitted into existing pump systems, making them highly versatile and user-friendly. Typical applications include domestic and industrial effluents, hydrated lime slurry, sludge, shear sensitive latex emulsion, milk curds, sauces, fruit juices, industrial chemicals and detergents, starch slurries, coating clays, gypsum and silicate, paper stocks and agricultural slurries.

The versatile and reliable Mono pump was first introduced in South Africa in 1968 and, over the years, it has proven to be highly popular in the mining, petrochemicals, pulp and paper, sugar, wastewater, sewage and agricultural and irrigation sectors, among others.
