Tailored fluid solutions and line systems hose components supplier ContiTech has developed a high-temperature Conti Excelsus hose with external reinforcement which can be precisely tailored to relevant applications.

ContiTech explains that flexibility allows the new Conti Excelsus high-temperature hose to be used in tight and complex installation situations and that, depending on the particular model, it can withstand temperatures of up to 250° C.

“The Conti Excelsus high- temperature hose is part of a modular package from which the user can select the best product for the particular application. “It can also be manufactured as a molded hose or for sale by the metre. “Additionally, a kink-resistant version is possible,” states ContiTech.

Another benefit of the new hose is that it supplies turbochargers with cooling water and lubricant, and it is used in its control system. It is also suitable for transporting air in, for instance, exhaust systems or as a fuel return line.

Its flexibility comes from a special braid made of a plastic textile, which is resistant to high temperatures and chemicals, that encloses the inner lining made of a rubber specially adapted for the application, which is highly stretchable.

As a result of its rigorously lightweight design, the cost-optimised solution for operating pressures of up to 15 bar also offers a significant weight advantage over the polytetrafluoroethylene pipes enclosed in a stainless-steel braid used until now for these tasks.

Hose developer Klaus Brühne points out that the new hose therefore contributes to reducing fuel consumption and carbon dioxide emissions.

Other Products
Other products manufactured by ContiTech include its flexible and dimensionally stable oil lines consisting of a polyethylene aluminium (PA) pipe, which is already successfully operational in forklifts. It is approved for operating pressures of up to 80 bar and is suitable for low-pressure hydraulic lines and numerous other applications. The company notes that , although preformed, it is significantly more flexible than previous PA pipes, which enables it to damp vibrations and assist with fitting.

Another product from ContiTech is the conductive hose, an inner lining made of fluorocarbon rubber that prevents static buildup at high throughflow rates which, in the worst-case scenario, could result in sparking and spontaneous ignition of the vehicle.

ContiTech’s highly flexible fuel lines are suitable for fuel, diesel and biodiesel and can withstand operating temperatures from –40° C to 150° C. The outer lining is resistant to radiant heat up to 150° C and, briefly, even 175° C.

ContiTech has extensive material and process expertise, including the modern computer numeric control bending machines and test equipment, to ensure that the best solution can always be found for the customer.
