Transnet begins repairs on damaged Springfield Park gas pipeline
State-owned Transnet Pipelines will start repairs on a gas pipeline in Springfield Park, Durban, near the Bisasar Road landfill site, on March 31, after the pipeline was damaged by a tractor-loader-backhoe (TLB) on March 30.
The TLB was deployed by the landfill management team site to clean up the illegal dumping when it accidentally hit the pipeline.
Owing to a fire on the adjacent landfill site, the Transnet Pipelines team could not access the pipeline to establish the full extent of the damage and, as a safety precaution, the pipeline was isolated and gas flow through the pipeline was stopped.
The fire was brought under control late last night and the repairs to the pipeline will now commence.
Transnet Pipelines has notified all downstream users and will endeavour to effect the repairs as soon as possible.
